05 Feb Meet Valerie Simpson
Valerie is from Farmington, N.M. She is Tódich’ii’nii (Bitter Water), born for Hashtł’ishnii (Mud). Maternal Grandfather is Bit’ahnii (Within His Cover) and Paternal Grandfather is Naashaashi (Bear Enemies.)
She has an important role in our 1,200 team member work force. Valerie joined NNGE as a Training Coordinator and currently is the Director of Human Resources for Northern Edge and Flowing Water Casinos.
Valerie is the daughter of Roy and Jessie Simpson. “Although both my parents have passed on, I have held onto their teaching which I truly believe has contributed to my success,” she adds.
A graduate of Piedra Vista High School, she earned a B.A. degree in Psychology from Fort Lewis College and her Masters in Strategic Human Resources Management and Development from the University of Denver utilizing the NNGE Tuition Reimbursement plan.
“The top two favorite reasons I like working here would be the development opportunities that exist and the team members. They truly become your second family,” she adds.
On achieving success, “The best advice I can give to others is to be open to change and challenges. If you overcome and get through them, you have accomplished something,” Valerie said.
