05 Feb Meet Sonya Thompson
Sonya’s home Chapter is Tsaile/Wheatfields/Blackrock. She is Kiiyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Tó’aheedlíinii (The Water Flows Together Clan.) Maternal Grandfather is Naakai dine’é (Mexican Clan) and Paternal Grandfather is Honágháahnii (One-Who-Walks-Around Clan.)
She is an important part of our 1,200 team member work force. Sonya was the Food & Beverage Supervisor at Twin Arrows Navajo Casino and is now the Interim Director of Food & Beverage at Northern Edge and Flowing Water Casinos.
Sonya tells us, “Currently, I am in my last semester at the University of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. I have studied at NAU for many years, working on my Bachelors of Science degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.” She adds, “My graduation is finally near and I am very enthusiastic about using all I have learned during my studies to continue applying hospitality to the industry.”
Her favorite thing about working at NNGE is, “the involvement, relationships and giving back to the Navajo People as well as local communities.”
As for advice to others on being successful, she says, “When opportunity knocks, go get it.”
